Computers and SAR

Computers can be used for a number of applications in managing a Search Operations.

As is covered on other pages computer based mapping has become readily available in recent times. As well as printing maps to go into the field, real time, or near real time, plotting of teams on computer based maps, or plotting of where teams have been onto maps from downloaded GPS are all possible.

Databases and other applications for managing a search include simple computer based Master Logs, printing forms, allocation of resources, special Radio Logs, etc

There are also specific spreadsheets and applications for some of the calculations such as Modified Matsons Concensus, CASIE etc

Networking of computers in the field with either cable or wireless networking gets more important as the number of computers used in an operation grows. As such network aware applications is important.
